CRIS UNGER

President

I truly am humbled and blessed to be a part of this special organization. I give honor to the hard-working leaders who have gone before me in bringing life to this outreach. I do not have a personal history with addiction, but it has touched my life through loved ones in a deeply personal way.

I believe that ALL human beings can experience victory, live lives of self-control and peace, and bring their best selves to their community. I also believe every human being needs a safe place to call home.

As a Realtor by trade, I love helping people buy homes and settle into a lovely space to call their own. Through the houses that Haven Homes provides, I have the privilege to also help those who are hurting and need a helping hand find a healthy home environment to heal and grow.

I consider it a gift from God to see radical life-change in others through this Haven Homes journey, and I consider it one of my greatest joys. It is also one of my own life commitments…to keep learning, growing, and giving back to my community.

CFO

It is an honor and a privilege to serve on this team. Although I do not have personal experience with addictions, I have mentored and walked along with several women who have found themselves homeless due to their addictions and the choices they made. These women were able to get into recovery programs and have changed their lives – getting jobs, and eventually their own homes and sense of well-being.

My business experience is in administration and accounting, recently retired from a large local church. With this experience, I am able to perform the financial duties for the team. It is a joy to be able to see men and women succeed in their sobriety and to be a part of it, even in the background.

NICK UNGER

Vice President

I have the great privilege of being a father of 3 and a grandfather of 11. Over the past 42 years, I have been a contractor, business owner, and I have enjoyed serving my community in various ways.

Through these years, I have seen and personally felt the pain and destruction of individuals and families caught up in addiction. I have found that when someone really desires to live in sobriety and the freedom that is available to them, it not only changes their life but it changes the lives of all the people around them. Fighting for sobriety can change our families and our community...one person at a time.

My love for God and a passion for helping people who need a bit of hope and encouragement are what drive my desire to be a part of the life-change this organization brings. It's very meaningful to be a part of the valuable outreach Haven Homes has in Hillsboro.

DANI SMITH

Housing Services Director

I have spent 20 years of my life in active addiction... I was born and raised in Alaska, and I moved down to Oregon in 2009 because I thought if I changed my environment, then I would stop using drugs and be able to get better.

But everywhere you go, there you are, so my addiction took hold of me again and I found myself homeless on the streets of Portland.

Getting clean and recovering from drugs is not easy, but it's worth fighting for. Today, I'm almost 4 years clean and sober, I wake up every morning with integrity and honesty in my heart. My intention is to bring my best self to every encounter and situation with kindness, courage, and laughter.

I love being of service and being able to guide people on their own journey of recovery and life. Being a part of Haven Homes is truly a blessing. The acceptance, love, and encouragement that is given to anyone and everyone changes lives. All it takes is a small seed of hope in your heart.
